Fall Classic Final Game Captures 51 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canadian and Japanese Regions.

The exciting extra-inning matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a aggregate over 50 million viewers in the US, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB stated this is the most-watched Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s memorable contest drew 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the last Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed 4th, the fourth game was 7th, Game 5 was eighth, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the game drew 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English broadcast in the country since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game began at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a single network in the country.

Series Totals and Trends

The full seven-match World Series recorded over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience growth for two consecutive years.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the complete US viewership was over 16 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent rise over last year and the network’s best playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the World Series was televised in 203 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in 16 various tongues.
